Hosting for the Fourth of July? How to Prep Your Home (and Fridge) Without the Stress

The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays — the warm weather, the sparklers, the excuse to make way too much potato salad. But let's be honest, the lead-up can feel a little chaotic, especially if you're the one hosting.

So let's talk about how to get your home and fridge ready without spending the entire holiday week stressed out.

Start with your fridge (seriously, do this first)

Before you even think about a shopping list, take 15 minutes to clear out your fridge. Toss anything expired and create a dedicated zone for party food. Make sure you’ve cleared enough room for the day-of platters. It sounds obvious, but so many people are playing fridge Tetris on the morning of the party.

A cooler is your best friend

Drinks and extras (think overflow sodas, extra watermelon, bags of ice) don't need to live in your refrigerator. Set up a designated cooler station the day before, and suddenly your fridge has so much more room for the things that actually need it: marinating meats, prepped salads, and desserts.

Declutter your entertaining spaces the night before

Do a quick sweep of your dining table, countertops, and any surfaces where guests might gather. Clear off the everyday clutter (mail, backpacks, charging cables) and put it away where it belongs. Clear surfaces help everything feel more festive with minimal effort.

Hosting should feel fun, not frantic. A little bit of prep and the right systems in place make all the difference. If you find that your home regularly feels chaotic before events (or, let's be real, on ordinary Tuesdays), that's usually a sign that your spaces just need a little organization love — and that's exactly what I'm here for.

Wishing you a sparkly, stress-free Fourth! 🎆
